Building Security Systems: 5 Preventative Measures to Keep Your Building Secure
Date Publish: Jan 03, 2014
Basically, there are three ways to protect any business or building, and one is with technology, such as CCTV cameras and alarm systems; physical barriers like steel roller shutter doors and perimeter fences; and with security personnel who literally stand guard over your premises. If you are looking for the best security system to keep your building safe and secure, here are some simple yet effective measures that you can use:
- Alarm Systems
There's a wide variety of alarm systems available in the market these days, such as wireless systems and monitored or unmonitored systems. Whichever system you use, make sure that they are up to date and will alert immediately the proper authorities in case of a break-in. Likewise, make sure that there is a smoke detector incorporated in the alarm to alert the fire department in case of a fire in your building after hours. Regularly check your alarm system too every day if possible. Advertise also its presence by putting the alarm system company’s sticker or a yard sign to deter break-ins.
- Steel Entry Doors
To make your building secure, one important aspect that you need to take into account is your inner perimeter security. And one way to secure this is by making sure that you use strong hard-to-break-in security doors. These days, there are now also a range of entry doors, with either the steel roller shutter type or the heavy steel swing doors the most ideal. All of your security doors must be of solid construction, secured with heavy solid metal crossbars, metal lined, and fire proof as well. Make sure also to pin all exposed hinges to prevent removal.
- Perimeter Fence
Make sure that the perimeter of property is surrounded by industrial-strength safety fence system, especially if you have a loading area that is open outside or wants to control who have access to your commercial property. Make sure that your perimeter fence is adequate enough in keeping out intruders, while still allowing good visibility of your building by neighbours and police.
- Industrial Locks and Padlocks
To ensure that your inner perimeter is secure, you must make sure that all your exterior doors, including your industrial roller shutter doors, are secured with industrial locks. You must also secure all your interior doors that have expensive equipment or important company information with industrial door locks. These locks should be double cylinder deadbolts and have removable collars. There should also be at least one-inch throw in the deadbolt protected by a strong latch guard and with a hardened steel insert. In addition to this, secure also your doors with padlocks that have hardened steel. Make sure to mount these on bolted hasps and keep always locked to prevent exchange. Make sure also to file off their serial numbers to prevent crooks from making new keys.
Protecting your building is of utmost importance in today's world of increasing crime. You can use and combine some or all of these measures to help provide protection of your building.
